The Peas rug collection, produced by Danish company Hay, is entirely hand-made in Nepal and India with small local companies that solely use traditional production methods and weaving techniques. Made of wool, Peas rugs combine the softness of the material with the unique feel created by weaving small balls of wool strung by hand, like a pearl necklace. Hay was founded in 2002 to promote Danish design, and instead of strictly adhering to the style of the old masters, Hay reinvents their work in a more contemporary context. The company Hay reinterprets classic Nordic design forms in a modern setting, offering friendly, aesthetic, and functional designs. Hay draws inspiration from three main sources: art, architecture, and fashion, while paying particular attention to the surrounding environment and contemporary culture. The goal of Hay is to revive Danish design furniture from the 1950s and 60s.
