Favn means 'embrace' in Danish. Designer Jaime Hayon explains that he wanted to 'to create a form that embraces you, something really organic'. So he designed this Favn couch for Fritz Hansen. It has been conceived with great attention to detail and consists of just a few elements, which represent the perfect combination of Spanish design and Danish quality. The designer's work is characterised by his respect for colours, craftsmanship and techniques. The large, curved shell of the Favn sofa rests on small but elegant legs, while the decorative seat, backrest and cushions, combined with the use of three distinct fabric textures, create several visually strong layers. This smooth-lined sofa is available in nine combinations selected by the designer Jaime Hayon himself, each mixing three different fabrics: one for the shell, one for the seat and backrest and the third for the small cushions. An elegant sofa that, in a neutral colourway, will blend into a classic-style living room and, in stronger shades, will suit a more contemporary interior.
Born in 1974, Jaime Hayon studied design in Madrid and then Paris, and now divides his time between London, where he lives, Barcelona, where his team is based, and Treviso, home to his production workshop. Heir to Dalí and Almodóvar, his baroque universe is a hybrid blend of art, decoration, crafts and industrial design. He has designed washrooms that look like dressing tables for ArQuitects, moccasins for Camper and candleholders for Baccarat. He works with some of the biggest brands: Bosa (the Bubbles lamp), Lladro (The Masquerade collection of candlesticks), Magis (the Pina armchair)... The Showtime collection for BD Barcelona is surely one of his best-known, with its intriguing, eye-catching leather upholstered armchair. Jaime Hayon claims a return to style as a unique and singular signature. The "Almodóvar of Design", as some people call him, has already, in just 5 years, had a retrospective exhibition at the Kortrijk Design Biennial in Belgium, and a monograph published by the German publisher Gestalten. He is considered by The Times Magazine and Wallpaper Magazine to be one of the most influential designers of the last decade. His creations retain the know-how of traditional craftsmanship while adding his own unique, whimsical style.
