Between tradition and modernity, craftsmanship and industrial elements, the East River Chair sums up Hella Jongerius' work perfectly. Produced by Vitra, it is a light armchair with small dimensions that plays on the combination of materials and colours. The seemingly casual mix of colours is designed to give each variation of the chair its own character. The choice of material combinations is aesthetic but mainly chosen for practical reasons: the leather armrests offer better protection from wear and tear and dirt, while the seat and backrest are upholstered with fabric for added softness. A strap at the back of the chair enables you to move it as you wish. East River is a compact and attractive chair that can be easily combined with different styles of furniture in the living room.

Born in 1963 in de Meern, Holland, Hella Jongerius studied design at the Design Academy Eindhoven. She then attracted international attention through her collaboration with the Dutch design label Droog Design. Initially a student, she went on to teach for a year at the Design Academy Eindhoven, where she headed the Living/Atelier department from 2000 to 2004. At the same time, she set up her design studio "JongeriusLab" in Rotterdam to manufacture and market many of her creations herself, particularly tableware, vases, textiles and furniture. His work often straddles the line between design and craft, art and technology. Hella Jongerius also works with a wide range of brands, from suspension lamps for Belux (Blossom Flower) to decorative furniture for Vitra with the Bovist poufs, as well as producing plates for the prestigious Nymphenburg manufactory. Alongside Jasper Morrison and Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Hella Jongerius is the designer of a large part of the Vitra Home collection, which continues to grow. His creations have been the subject of numerous exhibitions around the world (MoMA in New York, Galerie Kreo in Paris, etc.).

VITRA
Vitra was founded in 1950 by Willi Fehlbaum and Erika Fehlbaum. The design furniture company Vitra is based near Basel, Switzerland. Starting in 1981, the design brand Vitra grew and opened many subsidiaries worldwide. The founders had spotted Eames Lounge Chairs by Charles and Ray Eames during a trip to New York, USA. They were immediately captivated and therefore requested a license to produce these pieces of furniture in Europe. In 1956, Vitra acquired this license, which became one of the keys to the brand's success.
